6 Books Every Business Owner and Entrepreneur Should Read
When working on your business or yourself it can be quite daunting sometimes knowing what is the best advice. You can Google everything and anything there is to know about business and so much information comes up, but what is best for you.
I personally love reading business books, and with so many options out there its great to know that you can continuously upskill yourself.
The 6 books that I’ve documented below, have changed my business and my life in different ways and I thought that it’s worth sharing them much like the author of each of these books has.
You can read them in any order, I would recommend the order below, but just make sure you read them.
1. Profit First
This book changed my life more than I can explain. I’ve recommended it to every business owner I know and will continue to do so. It’s a different method than you are taught in an accounting class, (remembering back to my accounting class in my Marketing degree) if this was taught instead it would have helped my business from day 1. Within 6 months of implementing this process, the results have been outstanding. I look forward to the 10th and the 25th of every month, read it and find out why. Find out more or Purchase now
2. The E Myth Revisited
This was recommended to me by my business adviser and accountant. I managed to read the book within a couple of days and it helped me focus on elements of the business that weren’t running the way I wanted. Going back to the basics made me get more excited about my business again and really helped to see the direction I wanted and need the business to go for my version of success. 3. Start with Why
I’m a big fan of Simon Sinek’s Ted talk ‘Why’ I’ve shown it to team members, clients, friends, family and many business owners. After watching the Ted talk for what must have been the 100th time I thought that there must be more to it and so I purchased the book, to strengthen my understanding, we complete why workshops with clients and this has been the basis of finding out and helping understand ‘why’ people do what they do. 4. The Checklist Manifesto
I nearly always have a to-do list on the go, one for clients projects and one for person business projects. I find that ticking things off when completed is very rewarding and most of the time having a list to work through can seem less overwhelming. When implementing checklists into your business it means that less and less things get missed. This is a great book to highlight the benefits and the process to make them work for your business. 5. Multipliers
I was lucky enough to complete a multipliers managers workshop based on the information in Multipliers, the per-work for the workshop we needed to read the book and like all the books in this blog, I couldn’t put it down and read it very quickly. If you manage a team or thinking of managing a team this book can help understanding who you are (or think you are) as a manager and helps you understand the people around you that you are working with. 6. Sprint
Not a book for everyone, but an amazing book to read. I really like some of the thought processes that David Ogilvy explains and covers in this book and if you’ve watched and enjoyed Mad Men, then this is a must-read. It also helps to highlight today in advertising as it was back then, it doesn’t matter what platform you use to promote any product or service, it’s all about the content you use to do it.
